During busy periods, many photographers simply stick to “the usual routine”: empty memory cards, process photos, deliver to clients, and archive everything haphazardly on a hard drive or NAS. This may suffice in the short term… until a client requests an image delivered two years ago, a drive fails, or you lose a day searching for a specific photo lost due to an obscure file name.

So, how can you ensure that your images remain findable, shareable, and protected over time?

Structuring a solid production workflow

A good production workflow is built on clear, repeatable steps tailored to your working method:

Upload and Renaming:

Give your files a standardised naming convention (e.g.: 2025-06-16_client-name-session_001.jpg).

Store them directly in a structured folder (by date, client, project type…).

Sorting and Backup:

Remove duplicates or mistakes immediately.

Perform an immediate backup to a second drive or cloud service.

Post-Processing:

Keep the original, RAW, and final exports in separate subfolders.

Archiving and Distribution:

Use a secure platform for long-term storage.

Prefer a professional sharing space (like Joomeo) over ephemeral Wetransfer links.

Managing Metadata: An Often Underestimated Asset

Most photo software automatically embeds IPTC metadata into your files. These details (author, location, subject, keywords…) make images intelligently searchable over time.

👉 Joomeo offers a Lightroom plugin that lets you back up your images directly from your favourite software.

🏹 Tips:

Define a consistent set of keywords for your business (types of services, locations, events).

Automatically add your contact details (name, website, copyright) in the Exif/IPTC fields at import.

The Role of a Professional Cloud Service

By choosing an online solution like Joomeo, you gain access to:

A private, secure, and uncompressed storage space
The ability to archive projects by client or theme

The ability to archive projects by client or theme

Customisable galleries for delivery – a simple interface for your clients (viewing, downloading, ordering…)

Key Takeaways

Your production workflow is only as good as its ability to withstand time and workload. A robust system frees your mind, increases your responsiveness… and enhances the perceived value of your work.

Once best practices are in place, everything becomes easier! You enter a routine that boosts both efficiency and peace of mind while providing strong security for your images.

Trust us! Time spent organising your workflow is a safe investment. Don’t neglect it…

How do you back up your family photos? The question may sound trivial. We always tell ourselves we’ll take care of it tomorrow, next week, soon… and then one day, it’s too late. So here’s our best advice: take the time to deal with it now!

Losing family photos is one of the most traumatic events imaginable. Memories disappear in an instant, leaving behind a painful void.

In the past 12 months, according to a study published by Databarracks, nearly 32% of data loss was due to human error (file deletion or loss of the storage medium), while 25% was caused by hardware failure (such as a hard drive crash).

Let’s be honest, whether at work or at home, we have all experienced one or the other of these situations! So why take the risk? Secure your family photo albums right away!

Organise your photos properly

Family photos are above all a way of keeping alive the memory of moments shared with your loved ones. They bear witness to the bonds created during family events both big and small. They also help nurture those bonds by keeping important memories vivid in our minds.

But to fulfil this role properly, photos must be easy to access and identify!

Of course, we all enjoy rummaging through boxes of old prints. You never know what you’ll come across – often some hidden gems of family life… more or less flattering, depending on who is in the photo! But sometimes you simply want to find one particular picture or a whole set from a specific event. The problem is that, when faced with hundreds of scattered images, it can feel overwhelming.

Today, digital tools give you rich, easy-to-use options such as folder organisation and keyword tagging. All of these features are available within your Joomeo space to help you manage your photos and videos. Don’t overlook them! They will save you time and make you far more efficient when you’re searching for specific memories.

When it comes to organising, everyone can create their own system. Still, the most straightforward approach is usually to build a chronological structure:

one folder per year,

one sub-folder per month,

one album per event or per day.

With Joomeo Transfer, you can comfortably organise your photo library on your computer, then either back up your images manually or set up an automatic backup of the folders of your choice.

Back up your family photos online

After a photo shoot or when you return from holiday, the first instinct is usually to transfer all your pictures to your computer. The more cautious among us might also make a copy on an external hard drive… which is a good start, but not enough!

A truly careful photographer will also create an online backup. Why? Quite simply because neither hard drives nor computers are entirely reliable (see the statistics at the start of this article).

We’ve already published a full article explaining how to set up a proper backup strategy for your digital files, especially during holidays. In short, to keep your photos and videos safe you should:

create at least 3 separate copies of your files,

stored across 3 different types of media,

with at least one copy online.

For the online part, your Joomeo space is ideal! Not only does it allow you to back up your memories, it also makes it easy to share your photos with friends and family – so your memories stay alive! In short, it’s the perfect tool… 😉

And for those who take a lot of photos and videos with their mobile phone, the iOS and Android apps let you automate the backup of all your images without having to think about it.

Don’t forget prints and photo books!

As we explain in this article, even though digital files make sharing and backing up your photos simple and fast, it would be a shame to neglect the joy of leafing through a photo album or passing printed snapshots of a family party or holiday from hand to hand.

So remember to print your photos regularly to keep a more physical connection with your memories. It really matters! And when you give one or more printed photos to someone close, you’re giving them a gift. Handing over a USB stick with copies of the files clearly doesn’t carry the same symbolic value, does it?

On top of that, printing your photos or making enlargements is also a very relevant form of backup.

Conclusion

Your family photos deserve your full attention. Don’t let them pile up and gather dust at the bottom of your mobile phone or computer. Identify them, organise them, and make them live by sharing them with your loved ones. With Joomeo, it couldn’t be easier! So you’ve no excuse – get started right away.

There are, in fact, many ways to preserve your photos. Joomeo and its storage and sharing platform is among the best. But protecting your photos and videos by putting them on your private online space is not enough. You need to bring them to life, for example through photo printing!

Your photos and videos represent your memories. They are rightly one of the main supports of your most treasured moments…

That is why, beyond protecting them, it is important to think about showcasing them. Keeping them in a private space without ever enjoying them risks making you forget them. That would be a shame!

In this respect, photo books and prints are an excellent way to give your memories the place they deserve.

Online photo books: easy to create

Thanks to new technologies, creating a photo book is very easy today!

No need to worry about image size; you can adjust it directly on your screen. In just a few clicks, you can add or remove photos from your book. The same applies to pages.

The selection of images is done live and can evolve as you wish. It is much simpler and faster than in the days of traditional print photo albums!

Extreme personalisation of every photo book

The customisation possibilities are now endless with online photo book creation tools such as Joomeo’s. No two photo books need ever look alike!

Your book belongs to you, and from its format to the colour of its spine, everything can make it unique. Each page can now reflect you. You decide the number of photos and their placement. Background colours depend on your preferences and inspiration, as do the number and length of your texts!

A photo book tells a piece of your life. With our tools, make sure it reflects you! Plus, it’s easy, fast, and fun – why not create it with your family? It will be a wonderful shared experience and everyone can make it their own. 😉

A beautiful photo book to preserve your memories and enjoy them for years

It is undeniable that a photo book is a superb, lasting object. It offers a perfect showcase for all your memories. Everyday smiles, major celebrations, vast landscapes, and exceptional trips… ultimately, there is a photo book for every occasion!

Do not hesitate to choose photo paper (matte or glossy) to enhance your shots. Why not take advantage of a completely flat book opening? A personalised hardback cover gives your book a remarkable professional touch. It also enhances the pleasure of leafing through your most cherished moments.

Another notable advantage: a photo book created online is easily reproducible. Ordering multiple copies or reissuing it is a breeze. It also costs far less than creating multiple expensive and tedious traditional photo albums.

Conclusion

In short, photo books and prints are not only wonderful gifts for your loved ones. They are also an extension of Joomeo’s service for preserving and protecting your photos and videos.

That is why we have included this product in our catalogue for several years now, alongside prints and all the products offered by our photo lab. It fits within a framework of storing and enhancing your images.

In short, you are preserving your heritage and preparing to pass it on when you create a photo book. Keep that in mind!

Reminder:

Joomeo’s photo/video storage and sharing service is accessible 24/7 worldwide. However, photo products (such as prints) are only deliverable in certain countries.

Every day, we take photos. Lots of photos. Too many? This ease of capturing moments at any time is a gift… but also a trap.

L’article Where do all the photos we take go?

Today, we take photos as naturally as we breathe. Holidays, birthdays, dinners, walks, sunsets… every moment becomes a reason to pull out our phone. This spontaneity is wonderful, but it has a downside. Once a photo is taken, what happens to it? All too often, it gets lost in the flood. And that’s when our Photo Memory begins to fade.

Memory Saturated by Excess Images

According to Photutorial, over 2.1 trillion photos are expected to be taken worldwide in 2025. The number is staggering. Yet, most of these shots will probably never be looked at again. Too many images, too little sorting: this is the paradox of the digital age.

Our phones overflow with forgotten memories. Clouds are full, hard drives too. The result? Precious moments we thought we had immortalised become invisible. Photography, once considered a stimulus for our memory, turns into digital background noise.

Too much is too much: the trap of accumulation

The more photos we take, the less we actually look at them. It’s a fact. And when it comes time to sort them, the task seems insurmountable. So we postpone. Again and again. Until this mountain of images becomes a source of stress rather than pleasure.

And yet, these images have value. They tell our story. They anchor us, remind us of where we come from, what we’ve experienced, what we’ve loved. In times of change, or simply to pass on our experiences, they are essential. Provided we can actually find them… and give them meaning.

Relearning to sort to remember better

Fortunately, all is not lost. Sometimes it just takes starting, slowly but surely. Begin by deleting duplicates, blurry photos, and forgotten screenshots. Then, organise what remains. By theme, by date, by person. This sorting brings out what really matters.

Too many photos can create a sense of fatigue. Giving purpose to each image is essential. Think about sorting!

Creating albums is not only practical: it’s also a way of storytelling. Telling the story of a trip, a meeting, or a period in life. This visual narrative reactivates our emotional memory. We’re no longer looking at files. We’re reliving moments.

And why not print a few photos? Display them, gift them, place them in a frame or album. This simple gesture gives images a presence in our daily life. They no longer live only on a screen, but in our environment.

What Photo Memory Experts Say

In his article La mémoire photographique ou la sensibilité historique des photographes, photography historian Michel Poivert explains: “Photography maintains a link with memory through its very function as testimony and trace.”

This partly explains why the photos that mark us are far more than just an album in our heads. They influence our mood, our balance, and sometimes even our ability to refocus. When our photos accumulate without order or purpose, they can create blur… in our minds too.

The good news: sorting through your images often brings a bit of order to your thoughts as well. By choosing what to keep, we clarify our memories, give meaning to our experiences, and revive emotions we thought were tucked away in a folder.

Taking the time to sort is a real pause. The kind of pause that allows us to revisit our own history, to rediscover what moves us, what truly matters. In other words: sorting is choosing, in order to remember better. And it feels good!

Regaining Control of Your Photo Memory

So how can we avoid losing the richness of our photographic memories?

Today, platforms exist to help you sort, organise, and protect your photos. Not to expose them to the whole world, but to preserve them in an intimate and controlled space. These tools offer safe areas where you can create albums, manage access, maintain image quality… and rediscover the pleasure of looking at them. Ultimately, it’s not the quantity of photos that matters, but what we choose to do with them. Photo Memory is not just storage. It is personal heritage. And like any heritage, it deserves a little time and attention… to truly make sense.
